Troopers Identify Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash Tuesday

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Smyrna that left one man dead.

Officials said on July 2, 2024, at approximately 2:02 p.m., a 2017 Toyota Camry was traveling in the left turn lane on Dupont Parkway northbound at the intersection with the entrance ramp Route 1 northbound.

At the same time, a 2002 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle was traveling in the left lane on Dupont Parkway southbound approaching the same intersection. The preliminary investigation revealed the Toyota made a left turn towards the ramp for Route 11 northbound at the same time the Yamaha entered the intersection police said Wednesday. As a result, the front of the Toyota struck the front of the Yamaha, which caused the motorcyclist to be ejected.

The operator of the Yamaha, 54-year-old Christopher Slaughter, of Dover, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 26-year-old woman from Bear, Delaware, was not injured.
