Troopers Identify Woman Struck And Killed On I-495 Sunday

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred last night on I-495 near Edgemoor that left one woman dead.

On Sunday evening, at approximately 11:43, a white 2015 Honda Accord was traveling in the left lane of I-495 northbound, north of Edgemoor Road. At the same time, a pedestrian, who Troopers say was not wearing any reflective clothing or carrying a flashlight, was attempting to cross from the left side of I-495 northbound to the right side.

The pedestrian crossed in the path of the Honda and was struck in the left lane of I-495 northbound. After the collision, the Honda came to a stop on the left shoulder. During the investigation, it was discovered the pedestrian was initially operating a black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was located approximately 1/4 mile north of the crash scene on the right shoulder with its hazard lights on.

The pedestrian, a38-year-old Angel Alston of Elkton,, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, a 47-year-old man from Bear, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.
