Woman Trapped Under Overturned Vessel In The Delaware River Saturday

Middletown, DE — On Saturday, July 20, 2024, at approximately 11:45 AM, a 67-year-old woman was rescued after being trapped under an overturned boat in the Delaware River near Augustine Beach. The incident occurred off of Fishers Wharf Road.

The woman, who was trapped in an air pocket under the boat for thirty minutes, was able to communicate with those nearby during the ordeal according to initial reports from the scene. Rescue teams worked quickly, reportedly cutting a hole in the bottom of the boat to facilitate the woman’s removal.

After being freed, the woman was assessed onshore but declined transportation to the hospital.
