Fuel Spill Cleanup Underway Near Delaware City

At approximately 9:00 AM today, a fuel spill resulted in the closure of the northbound ramp from Route 72 to Route 1 in New Castle, Delaware. The spill occurred at the Wrangle Hill Road overpass.

Belvedere Hazmat 30, along with units from the Delaware City and Port Penn Fire Companies, were dispatched to the scene. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) also deployed its Emergency Response Unit to manage and contain the spill.

As a result of the spill, the ramp has been closed to traffic while crews work to safely clean up the hazardous material. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and to exercise caution in the area due to the ongoing emergency response.
