Troopers Release Details In Fatal Pedestrian Accident At Rehoboth Walmart

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred this morning in Rehoboth Beach that left one woman dead.

Officials said on March 31, 2025, at approximately 7:58 a.m., a Dodge Ram was backing onto the sidewalk to load mulch in the parking lot of Walmart, located at 18922 Rehoboth Mall Boulevard in Rehoboth Beach. At the same time, a pedestrian was standing behind the Dodge, intending to guide the driver back. Troopers said that when the Dodge reversed, it hit the pedestrian and pinned her against the building.

The pedestrian, a 66-year-old woman from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.

The driver of the Dodge, a 76-year-old man, also from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, was not injured.

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — Just after 8:00 Monday morning, emergency crews were dispatched to the Walmart parking lot on Rehoboth Mall Boulevard. The response came following reports of a pedestrian struck near the store’s lawn and garden section.

The Rehoboth Beach Fire Company and Sussex County Paramedics responded to the scene. Upon arrival, first responders determined that the pedestrian had sustained fatal injuries and ordered all entrances to the parking lot closed.

Authorities have not yet released details surrounding the incident as they are currently investigating.

Motorists and shoppers in the area will experience delays.
