A fatal accident involving a bicyclist occurred late Friday night near Elsmere. Emergency crews were dispatched to the area of Kirkwood Highway and Woodward Avenue at approximately 11:24 p.m. for a report of a man in the roadway.
Upon arrival, first responders located a male in his 40s lying in the westbound lanes of Kirkwood Highway. It has not been confirmed whether the bicyclist was struck by a vehicle. Despite efforts at the scene, the man was pronounced deceased shortly after emergency personnel arrived.
Authorities closed the westbound side of Kirkwood Highway while investigators worked to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and clear the scene. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
