Police: Troopers Exchange Gunfire With Suspect Monday Morning, Neighbor Injured

Lewes, DE — A search for a man described as an armed suspect in a Lewes neighborhood concluded Monday when Delaware State Police (DSP) located and secured the individual, according to authorities.

The incident, which is believed to have occurred early Monday morning, involved an encounter between troopers and the suspect. According to an update posted by DSP, the situation escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Authorities have not released further information regarding the initial confrontation or confirmed specific details of the exchange.

When officials first announced that they were searching for an armed white male, they did not indicate whether an officer had been struck during the incident. However, they later clarified that no officers were injured.

Following the encounter, the suspect, identified as Jason Arnold, prompted officials to establish a perimeter and launch a search operation. Residents were urged to remain indoors, avoid the area, and contact 9-1-1 with any relevant information or sightings.

Throughout the morning, law enforcement maintained a heavy presence in the area, issuing multiple updates as the search progressed. At approximately 8:09 a.m., Arnold was publicly identified as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 230 pounds, last seen wearing a light-colored shirt and dark shorts. He was considered armed and dangerous, and police said that he should not be approached.

As the situation developed, troopers received information suggesting Arnold may have barricaded himself inside a residence on Blackwood Drive.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., troopers confirmed that Arnold was located inside the residence. The scene was declared secure, and authorities confirmed there was no longer any threat to the public.

During the course of the incident, a 69-year-old woman in a neighboring home sustained an injury. Investigators said they have not yet determined whether her injury was a direct result of the earlier exchange of gunfire. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released.
