State Rep. Resigns After Outcry Over Prolonged Absence

Representative Stell Parker Selby’s resignation follows intense scrutiny from local media and fellow lawmakers over her prolonged absence from the Delaware House amid health concerns.

Since suffering a severe medical emergency in December, Parker Selby has not cast a vote during the 2025 legislative session, drawing increasing criticism from colleagues and constituents. With less than two weeks remaining in the session, lawmakers from both parties, most notably Democrat Madinah Wilson‑Anton and Republican House Leader Tim Duke, called for her resignation, citing the lack of representation in District 20.

CoastTV pressed Speaker Melissa Minor‑Brown and other House leaders for transparency regarding Parker Selby’s condition and capacity to serve. Repeated questions in the halls of Legislative Hall prompted allegations that Democratic leadership had sought to conceal her absence, accusations made public after internal discussions reportedly included proposals as controversial as parking cars in her reserved spot as a ruse CoastTV reported. Wilson‑Anton broke ranks with her party, reportedly asserting the leadership’s narrative was deceptive.

Under mounting pressure, Parker Selby tendered her resignation on Tuesday, stating that her recovery, while significant, still prevents her from performing legislative duties fully.

A special election to fill the vacancy is expected within weeks.
