A Millsboro man is facing multiple charges after Delaware State Police responded to a welfare check in Dagsboro on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities arrested 62-year-old Kurt Faulkner after finding him unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle parked along Iron Branch Road. At around 4:00 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the 30000 block of Iron Branch Road following reports of a Ford Escape parked on the southbound shoulder.
Witnesses observed the vehicle’s right turn signal flashing and windshield wipers engaged, with the driver leaning out of the open door and unresponsive. Upon arrival, troopers located the vehicle and identified the driver as Faulkner, who was sweating heavily, showed signs of impairment, and had an open bottle of whiskey in the vehicle police said. Emergency medical services transported him to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
A background check showed that Faulkner had four previous DUI convictions according to police. During a search of the vehicle, troopers discovered twenty-six baggies of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia. A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw, and Faulkner was later taken into custody.
He was charged with fifth offense DUI, noncompliance with conditions of bond, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended or revoked, and failure to have a registration card in possession. Faulkner was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $8,500 cash bond.
