Delaware State Police have arrested 32-year-old Tanekqua Stanford of New Castle on multiple felony charges after a stabbing incident that left one man injured on Monday afternoon.
On August 18, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the Best Knight Inn on West Avenue in New Castle following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers determined that a male victim had been stabbed by a female suspect, later identified as Stanford police said. The victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators learned that the incident began when the victim was speaking with Stanford and three other individuals. During the interaction, Stanford allegedly removed a pocketknife from the victim’s pocket. When the victim confronted her and requested the return of the knife, she reportedly stabbed him in the arm, police said.
Stanford was located shortly after the incident and taken into custody without incident. She was transported to Troop 2, where she was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, second-degree assault, and theft under $1,500.
Following arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 2, Stanford was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $61,000 cash bond.
