A Kent County man has been found guilty in connection with a gunfire incident that occurred outside a Dover High School football game last fall.
Earlier this month, 28-year-old Dover resident Kameron Scott was convicted by a Superior Court jury of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm in a Safe School Zone, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited. The charges stemmed from an investigation conducted jointly by the Dover Police Department and the Delaware Department of Justice.
The incident took place on October 18, 2024, during Dover High School’s home football game against Smyrna. Dover Police officers were already present at the stadium when a fight broke out in the parking lot involving Scott’s associates and another group. During the altercation, Scott, who was legally barred from possessing a firearm due to a prior robbery conviction, fired a single gunshot into the air before fleeing toward the nearby Leandre Lakes Apartments. Officers working the game were quick to respond, placing themselves in between the active threat and the dozens of innocent bystanders, according to Dover Police Chief Thomas Johnson. He added that the suspect was captured before he could dispose of the weapon or endanger residents of the nearby apartment complex.
