Police: Smyrna Student Facing Charges After School Threat

On Thursday, October 16, 2025, the Smyrna Police Department’s School Resource Officer assigned to the Smyrna Middle School was notified of a threat of violence against the school by a current student.

Officials said through investigation, it was determined that a 13-year-old student from Smyrna, DE, made a verbal threat indicating a date he would get revenge for a previous incident and “shoot up the school”. SPD immediately contacted this student and removed him from the school while this threat was investigated.

On Friday, October 17, 2025, SPD signed arrest warrants for the juvenile, charging him with the crime listed below. The juvenile was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.

Officials urged parents to speak with their children about the seriousness of making threatening statements and the consequences that come from them.
