Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested 25-year-old Fatima Chambers-McKnight of Wilmington following an investigation into a shooting.
Officials said on Sunday, November 9, 2025, just after 10 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the unit block of Court Drive in the Greenview at Chestnut Run community. It was reported that a female victim flagged down a bystander and advised she had been shot in the hand.

The victim reported she was shot by an unknown suspect somewhere inside the complex, and she fled to a nearby business on Lancaster Pike. Multiple patrol officers responded to the complex and nearby communities to assist and search for the shooter. Rescue personnel and medics responded to provide first aid and assist the victim who was then transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. NCCPD Detectives and Evidence Detectives then responded to the scene to assume the investigation.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage, conducted a neighborhood canvas, and completed multiple interviews. The investigation revealed that the information provided by the victim, 25-year-old Fatima Chambers-McKnight, was false.
The investigation showed that the victim was involved in a domestic dispute with a known male at an apartment inside of the complex according to police. During the dispute, Chambers-McKnight, physically assaulted the male added police. The male then attempted to flee at which time Chambers-McKnight removed a handgun from her jacket according to police. It was at this time, Chambers shot herself accidentally in her hand. It was reported that Chambers-McKnight then discarded the loaded firearm in the community. K9 Havoc along with his handler conducted a terrain search and located the firearm. Chambers-McKnight was later charged with one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one count of reckless endanger in the first degree, one count of assault in the third degree, and one count of aggravated menacing. Chambers-McKnight was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $17,000 secured bail.

WILMINGTON, Del. — Emergency crews were dispatched just after 10 p.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting in the unit block of Court Drive, off Lancaster Pike. Firefighters from the Elsmere Fire Company and New Castle County Paramedics responded to the scene.
As first responders made their way to the area, New Castle County Police officers were working to place the situation under control. Responding units were then directed across the street to the BP gas station, where a woman in her twenties was located suffering from a gunshot wound to an upper extremity. It’s unclear where the shooting occurred.
Before the arrival of EMS, county officers applied a tourniquet to control bleeding. The victim was transported by ambulance to the trauma center with New Castle County Paramedics accompanying her. Her condition was not immediately available.
Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or any suspects involved. The investigation remains active.
