OCEAN CITY, Md. — Ocean City Police Department announced a series of enforcement measures as the resort town prepares for the upcoming Cruisin’ Ocean City, which is expected to draw thousands of visitors.
The Town of Ocean City will designate the entire area as a Special Event Zone from April 28 through May 3. During this period, officials said traffic regulations will be strictly enforced in an effort to manage congestion and maintain public safety.
Authorities said that speed limits will be reduced within the zone and fines for violations will be increased. Under Maryland law, certain motor vehicle offenses committed in a Special Event Zone may result in enhanced penalties, including higher fines and potential arrest.
Parking regulations will also be modified during the event under a town resolution aimed at addressing increased demand and ensuring emergency access. Officials said enforcement will focus on keeping restricted areas clear and maintaining traffic flow throughout the resort.
Law enforcement agencies are expected to maintain a visible presence across Ocean City, with officers assigned to enforce traffic laws and respond to unsafe behavior. Officials emphasized that reckless driving, including burnouts, pop-up car shows, and roadway takeovers, will not be tolerated.
With large crowds anticipated, officials are urging both drivers and pedestrians to remain alert and follow all posted regulations throughout the event.
Key changes and enforcement measures include:
- Special Event Zone in effect from April 28 through May 3
- Reduced speed limits throughout designated roadways
- Increased fines for traffic violations
- Enhanced penalties for certain offenses, including possible arrest
