Video: Police Chase Winds Through New Castle County

Bear –  Traffic was at a complete stop on Route 1 NB between Route 40 and Route 273 due to a police chase last night.

Reports from the scene indicate that the fleeing car was stolen and was possibly involved in a hit-and-run earlier in the day. The chase began when Wilmington Police (WPD) tried to pull the car over and the car failed to stop.  The car fled down Terminal Avenue before heading south on I-495 to Route 1 SB. WPD called for State Police to join the chase shortly before the vehicle left Wilmington.

The car turned onto Route 1 and exited at Route 40. The suspect traveled west bound towards Maryland before making a U-turn and heading back towards Route 1.

The car followed closely by police entered Route 1 NB. As the car speed north bound the call was made to stop the car and a felony car stop was conducted. Police closed the road for several minutes as they secured the scene.

Police units from Newport also joined the chase.
