Wednesday Truck Collision Ties Up traffic On I-95 For Hours

Newark – At 3:56 am on Wednesday Aetna along with Christiana Fire were dispatched to I-95 Southbound in the area of South Chapel Street for a commercial vehicle fire. As units went responding additional information reported a motor vehicle collision with injuries.

Crews arrived to find a 2 vehicle MVC involving 2 tractor trailers. The rear tractor trailer had ruptured both saddle tanks and was leaking a significant amount of fuel (potentially up to 140 gallons). Resource requests included DelDOT, B&F Towing Co. Inc., DNREC, and Belvedere Fire Company for HAZMAT 30.

The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital by an Aetna Basic Life Support ambulance. Crews remained on scene for several hours to assist DNREC with removing the fuel from the saddle tanks. Lane closures were in effect.
