Wilmington – Shortly after 4:00 this morning, Wilmington Firefighters on the C platoon were alerted to a residential structure fire at 315 East 13th Street, according to Battalion Chief John Looney.
Looney said units were initially dispatched for smoke in the area, but with additional information were directed to the 300 block of East 13th Street. Units arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the second floor of the end of the row residence. Crews from Squad 4 began an aggressive fire attack while crews from Tower 1 completed a search of the residence to ensure all occupants escaped.
The residence sustained significant fire and smoke damage. Two residents were evaluated on scene by St. Francis EMS and NCC Paramedics but refused treatment. The American Red Cross is currently assisting one adult male. The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
There are no reports of any other civilian or firefighter injuries, according to Looney. The scene was placed under control at 4:27 AM by the incident commander, Battalion Chief Elizabeth Tickner.
Approximately 20 fire and EMS personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: Squad 4, Squrt 3, Engine 5, Tower 1, Battalion-1, Battalion-2, FM-14, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Paramedics, Wilmington Licenses & Inspections, Delmarva Power, and the American Red Cross.
