Authorities Release Details Surrounding Last Night’s Second Route 1 Crash

Last evening, as crews were at the scene of the deadly Route 1 crash that took the lives of two Newark men, another crash occurred in the same general area.

At approximately 9:53, New Castle County Paramedics and personnel from the Delaware City and Christiana Fire Companies were dispatched to the area of Route 1 Northbound and the School House Road overpass, for a motor vehicle crash with entrapment.

Arriving County Paramedics found a crash that involved two vehicles, a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer. The patient, a male, was trapped in the wreckage of the pickup truck for approximately 20 minutes.

Fire department personnel on scene worked to free the patient; and once extricated, he was evaluated for serious injuries to the leg. The patient was transported to the Trauma Center at  Christiana Hospital via Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Helicopter). He was stable at the time of transport.

One other patient was transported to the hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries on board an ambulance from the Delaware City Fire Company.

Delaware State Troopers were on scene and are investigating the crash.
