Fire Heavily Damaged Building In Newport Friday Morning

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s fire in Newport, Delaware that heavily damaged a building.

Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly after 6:00 am, occurred in the 300 block of South Walnut Street. The Minquas Fire Company responded to the location and arrived on the scene with smoke pouring from the building.

State fire investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. Damage was estimated to exceed $100,000. There were no reported injuries.
