Happening Now: Fiery Crash Closes Summit Bridge Road In Bear

Just before 6:00, this morning rescue crews from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown responded to Summit Bridge Road and Denny Road for a reported vehicle fire.

While en route to the scene crews were alerted that the vehicle fire was the result of a motor vehicle collision and that all occupants were out of the vehicle.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that a vehicle crashed into a ditch and caught fire.

One patient, believed to be a passenger in that vehicle, was transported to the trauma center at Christiana.

Additional reports from the scene indicate that the driver of the vehicle was also transported to the hospital.

Later radio reports indicated that one person was also trapped in a second vehicle. It’s not clear if that patient was transported.

Crews from Newark, New Castle County Paramedics, and Delaware State Police also responded to the scene.

The SB lanes of Summit Bridge Road are currently shut down at Denny Road.
