On September 18, 2020, at 21:07, multiple New Castle County Paramedic units, along with rescue crews from Cranston Heights Fire Company, Mill Creek Fire Company, Elsmere Fire Company, and Belvedere Fire Company, were alerted to a motor vehicle collision with reports of entrapment, according to Paramedic Senior Corporal Ruoy L. Koontz.
Koontz said the incident occurred on Kirkwood Highway at Newport Gap Pike. On arrival, a total of two patients were found trapped in their vehicles, both requiring advanced life support care. After a short period of time, both patients were extricated by on-scene rescue crews.
Patient one, a 55 year-old-male, suffered significant injuries to the upper and lower extremities, as well as possible internal injuries. He was transported via Mill Creek Fire Company ambulance. Patient one was in critical, but stable condition at the time of transport.
Patient two, an adult aged female, was treated on scene for life-threatening injuries. She was transported via Belvedere Fire Company ambulance in critical condition at the time of transport.
Both patients were treated on scene and accompanied by New Castle County Paramedic during transport to Christiana Hospital Emergency Room. Delaware State Police is investigating the crash.
