Milford Man Checking His Mail Struck And Killed By Motorcycle

Milford – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred earlier this evening, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said on January 22, 2021, at approximately 5:57 p.m., a 2004 Suzuki GSX was traveling northbound on Log Cabin Road. An 85-year-old male of Milford had pulled into his driveway of a residence in the 1000 block of Log Cabin Road. The man exited his parked vehicle and began crossing the road in the direction of his mailbox when he was struck near the center of the roadway by the Suzuki. After the initial impact, the Suzuki overturned, and the 24-year-old male operator of Milford was ejected from the motorcycle.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The motorcycle operator suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

Log Cabin Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was completed and the roadway cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information regarding the collision should contact Sgt. John Wheatley by calling 302-698-8518.
