On Wednesday, at 9:04 pm, Wilmington Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire in the 2600 block of N. Madison Street. On arrival, Squad 4 reported heavy smoke showing from the front of the two-story, middle of a row, single-family residential structure. Battalion Chief of District 1 on his arrival assumed command of the incident. Squad 4 immediately stretched hose line into the residence and aggressively attacked the fire inside of rear bedroom on the 2nd floor. The crews from Ladder 1 and Engine 5 performed searches of all floors, finding no one inside.
Command placed the situation under control shortly before 10:00 pm.
Several residents have been displaced from the structure and currently are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
The following city units responded: Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Squad 4, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Battalion-1, Battalion-2, FM -12, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Paramedics, and Wilmington Police Department.
