Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest Of Two

Delaware State Police have arrested Kendrick Johnson, 31, of Wilmington, and Diamonte Crawford, 31, of California, for drug-related offenses following a traffic stop that occurred yesterday evening in the Claymont area.

On January 3, 2023, at approximately 7:56 p.m., a trooper observed a vehicle with a suspended registration northbound on Governor Printz Boulevard. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and smelled an odor of marijuana while making contact with the occupants of the vehicle according to police. Crawford, the driver, provided identification to the trooper. A computer inquiry revealed that he had an active capias. He was asked to exit the vehicle and subsequently taken into custody. It was discovered that Johnson, the passenger, had a fully loaded firearm concealed in his waistband said police. The firearm was recovered without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 518.61 grams of suspected marijuana and approximately $3,491 in suspected drug proceeds. The suspects were transported back to Troop 1, where they were charged with the following crimes:

Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)

Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)

Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)

Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (Felony)

Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony)

Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)

Johnson was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an $87,000 cash bail.

Crawford was charged with:

Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)

Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony)

Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)

Crawford was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $12,100 secured bail.
