Man Facing Assault Charge In March 9th Shooting

Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident following an investigation.

Officials said on March 9, at approximately 10:15 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 2800 block of Washington Street, in reference to a shooting incident.

Upon arrival, officers located a 29-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division.

Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wilkers identified 39-year-old Justin Hackett as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest officials said Tuesday. On March 25, at approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division conducted a motor vehicle stop in the 200 block of West 23rd Street, and took Hackett into custody without incident.

Hackett has been charged with Assault (First Degree), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited.

He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $87,000 cash-only bail.
