On Tuesday, April 23, voters in the Appoquinimink School District will return to the polls to determine the outcome of an educational funding referendum. This comes after a previous attempt in December that failed to pass.
The current proposal includes a capital initiative to increase tax bills by $0.03 per $100 of assessed property value, aimed at funding new elementary, middle, and high schools as part of a $280 million project.
The operational component of the referendum seeks an increase of $0.39 per $100 of assessed property value, totaling $11,126,000 for enhancements such as teacher and staff raises and additional operating cost.
The Appoquinimink School District referendum will be held across multiple schools, providing ample locations for district residents to cast their votes. Polling stations will be set up at Brick Mill Elementary, Bunker Hill Elementary, Cedar Lane Elementary, Crystal Run Elementary, Everett Meredith Middle, Lorewood Grove Elementary, Louis L. Redding Middle, Marion E. Proffitt Training Center, Middletown High, Old State Elementary, Olive B. Loss Elementary, Silver Lake Elementary, and Townsend Elementary from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
