Claymont Funeral Home Catches Fire Early Friday

Firefighters from across northern New Castle County responded to reports of a structure fire at Gebhart Funeral Home, located at 3401 Philadelphia Pike, in Claymont shortly after 1:00 Friday morning .

Upon arrival, the first crews on the scene reported visible flames and immediately began efforts to combat the blaze.

Initial reports from the scene suggested that a vehicle fire near the building may have been the origin of the incident, with the flames subsequently spreading to the STRUCTURE.

During the firefighting efforts, water supply was interrupted after a vehicle ran over the fire hose.

Additionally, there were reports of a near-miss incident where a firefighter was almost struck by a vehicle.

By 1:28 a.m., Command placed the situation under control. Investigators from the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office were on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
