Elkton House Fire Displaces Eight

On New Year’s Day, at approximately 5:56 p.m., a structure fire broke out in the 100 block of Normira Avenue in Elkton, Cecil County. The fire involved a single-family home and caused significant damage.

Discovered by a neighbor, the fire started on the exterior of the house according to authorities. Firefighters from the Singerly Fire Company responded, with 20 personnel bringing the blaze under control within 15 minutes. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Eight residents were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials said the fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the structure and $20,000 in losses to the home’s contents.
