One Shot In The Face, One In Custody In Manor Park Shooting

New Castle County Police have arrested and charged 31-year-old Kyle Schaal of Wilmington in connection with a shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in the Manor Park neighborhood.

At approximately 7:41 p.m. on June 4, 2025, officers responded to the unit block of Lea Road for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 37-year-old male victim inside a residence with gunshot wounds to his face. Outside the residence, officers found Kyle Schaal with visible injuries to his head and face.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit determined that Schaal arrived at the Lea Road residence to confront another individual but instead encountered the male victim. A physical altercation broke out in the yard, during which Schaal produced a handgun and shot the victim in the face police said. The altercation continued, and the victim ultimately gained control of the firearm before retreating into the residence to await police and emergency medical personnel.

Both Schaal and the victim were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators confirmed that Schaal’s injuries were the result of the physical struggle and not from gunfire.

Following his release from the hospital, Schaal was taken into custody and charged with one felony count of attempted murder in the first degree, one felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child, one felony count of strangulation, two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of criminal trespass in the third degree.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of $568,001 cash bail.
