Delaware State Police arrested 61-year-old Anthony McLeish of Magnolia, for a 9th offense felony DUI following a traffic stop in Dover on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
At approximately 3:48 p.m., a trooper patrolling the area of Walnut Shade Road and South Dupont Highway observed a teal 2004 Honda Odyssey traveling eastbound with its cargo hatch raised, obstructing visibility of the license plate.
A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver, identified as McLeish, exhibited multiple signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol on his breath police said. After Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, McLeish attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief struggle. A computer check confirmed that McLeish had eight prior DUI-related convictions according to police.
Following his arrest, McLeish was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the struggle. While at the hospital, he continued to resist and kicked a trooper in the face.
McLeish was charged with felony Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence (9th offense), felony Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence, Resisting Arrest, Driving While Revoked, and Display of License Plate. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $43,150 cash bond.
