Man Facing Charges After Attempted Robbery

Delaware State Police arrested 37-year-old Leroy Buchanan of Wilmington on Wednesday morning in connection with an attempted strong-arm robbery that occurred outside a Dunkin’ Donuts in Claymont.

At approximately 5:41 a.m. on July 23, troopers responded to the Dunkin’ Donuts located at 3224 Philadelphia Pike for a reported robbery attempt. According to investigators, the incident began when a woman placed her suitcase outside the business. A male suspect allegedly approached and took the suitcase, prompting the victim to confront him. She was able to recover her belongings and entered the store.

The suspect reportedly followed the victim inside and began striking her while attempting to pull her out of the store and regain control of the suitcase. He fled the scene on foot without the victim’s property. The woman was not injured during the encounter.

Troopers conducting a search in the area located a man matching the suspect’s description walking southbound on Philadelphia Pike. He was identified as Leroy Buchanan and was taken into custody without incident.

Buchanan was transported to Troop 1 and charged with Attempted Robbery Second Degree, a felony, and Offensive Touching. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
