Police Release Details Following Friday’s Search In Newark

Two teenagers face multiple charges after police say they attempted to steal vehicles in the Hunters Crossing community on Friday afternoon.

According to the New Castle County Division of Police, patrol officers were dispatched to the unit block of Fairway Road at approximately 2:10 p.m. on August 29, 2025, after receiving reports of juveniles attempting to steal cars. Investigators determined the suspects had arrived in a white Hyundai Sonata, which had been reported stolen from the same complex two days earlier.

An officer in the area located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a stop, but the suspects fled. The car ultimately crashed on Delaplane Avenue, and the occupants fled on foot. Responding officers established a perimeter and located both suspects, identified as a 15-year-old male from Wilmington and a 15-year-old female from New Castle.

The teens were each charged with theft of a motor vehicle, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property valued over $1,500, three counts of second-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief under $1,000, and third-degree criminal trespass.

Both were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $3,051 unsecured bail.
