Man Charged With DUI, Manslaughter In Triple Fatal

Wilmington Police are investigating a crash that left three people dead and one seriously injured early Saturday morning.

At approximately 4:17 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of East 10th Street and North Walnut Street in Wilmington for a reported motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, first responders encountered one vehicle fully engulfed in flames, with initial reports indicating the fire had already consumed much of the passenger compartment.

Preliminary information indicated all three fatalities were located inside the same vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash also involved at least one additional vehicle, where one occupant sustained serious injuries and was transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance.

Officials identified the three victims as a 48-year-old male, a 35-year-old female, and a 41-year-old male. Police also identified 30-year-old Nicholas Resto as the driver of the striking vehicle. Resto was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The investigation, led by the department’s Special Operations Division Traffic Unit, determined that Resto was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding at the time of the crash. He has been charged with three counts of manslaughter, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol, in addition to related traffic offenses.

Resto was arraigned and committed to the custody of the Department of Correction on $105,200 cash-only bail.
