Two Charged In Armed Assault

Two Bear men have been arrested and charged following an assault investigation that began earlier this month in New Castle County.

The incident occurred on Thursday, just before 5:00, when officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the unit block of Ferris Court for a report of an assault involving a weapon. Authorities determined the victim had arranged to meet with two acquaintances and entered a vehicle with them. While traveling, the suspects stopped the vehicle and began assaulting the victim over a prior dispute according to police. During the incident, the victim was struck with a weapon inside the vehicle before managing to escape and contact police. The victim sustained minor upper body injuries.

Detectives later identified the suspects as 19-year-old Franck Sahou (R) and 19-year-old Daniel Abegunde (L), both of Bear.

On April 10, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence associated with Abegunde in Bear. During the search, investigators recovered a handgun, more than 140 grams of marijuana, packaging materials, and drug paraphernalia.

Abegunde was taken into custody and transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, strangulation, aggravated menacing, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, conspiracy in the second degree, and possession with intent to deliver. Additional misdemeanor charges include assault in the third degree, terroristic threatening, possession of marijuana other than a personal use quantity, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $266,000 cash bail.
