The Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday night in Wilmington.
According to investigators, the crash happened on April 23, 2026, at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Powder Mill Road near Alapocas Drive. A preliminary investigation determined that a Saturn SC2 was traveling southbound in the right lane when it was approached from behind by a Dodge Charger at a speed exceeding 120 miles per hour police said.
Police said the front of the Dodge struck the rear of the Saturn, causing the vehicle to spin and collide with a guardrail. Following the initial impact, the Dodge continued traveling a short distance before crossing into the northbound lanes and striking a tree head-on.
The driver of the Dodge, a 26-year-old man from Wilmington who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding his name pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Saturn, a 27-year-old Wilmington man, was not injured in the crash.
Powder Mill Road was closed for an extended period as troopers conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
