A knife-wielding suspect robbed a gas station in New Castle Monday night before leading Delaware State Police on a pursuit through Wilmington, according to investigators.
The robbery was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m. at the Shell on New Castle Avenue. Police said an unknown man armed with a knife approached the store clerk and demanded money from the register. The clerk complied and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a white Ford Taurus. No injuries were reported.
A short time later, troopers spotted the vehicle in Wilmington and attempted a traffic stop. Investigators said the driver refused to stop, leading troopers on a brief pursuit before the vehicle was lost from sight.
The Ford Taurus was later found abandoned near Wilson Street and East 13th Street in Wilmington.
The suspect was described as a man approximately 6-foot-2 wearing a brown sweatshirt and dark-colored pants.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate.
