Smyrna police officers recently seized a .32 caliber revolver following a traffic stop for motor vehicle violations. On July 23rd at 1:45a.m. an Smyrna officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop in the area of Route 13 and S Carter Road for observed traffic violations. Authorities said that upon contacting the four occupants of the motor vehicle, evidence of further criminal activity was uncovered. Police also said that the driver of the vehicle initially provided officers with a false name and was later identified as Zymir Diggs, 21 of Smyrna. The other 3 passengers were two 17 year olds from Smyrna and a 16 year old from Felton. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle which revealed a .32 caliber revolver concealed underneath of a rear seat as well as ammunition for the firearm. All 4 suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Smyrna police department.
Mr. Diggs was charged with the Criminal Impersonation, Conspiracy 2nd degree, Driving without a valid license, Expired temporary registration plate and Failure to have proof of insurance
Mr Diggs was also found to have a capias from the Kent County CCP. Mr. Diggs was arraigned via video court in JP #7. He was committed into the custody of the Dept. of Corrections in lieu of $1,253 secured bond. The 3 juveniles were each charged with Carrying a concealed deadly weapon and Conspiracy 2nd degree. The juvenile suspects were all released into the custody of their parents pending future hearings in Family Court.
