Newark – On Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at approximately 1:45 p.m., New Castle County Police Patrol “B-Squad” officers responded to the unit block of Turf Lane in reference to a burglary in-progress. Upon arrival, officers contacted a victim who advised that he arrived home when he heard his alarm going off and observed a person in his back yard attempting to kick and pry open a rear door with a hammer. Police say the victim contacted the person, later identified as Michael Stonebreaker, and proceeded to chase him from the property. Michael Stonebreaker fled from the scene in a blue Chevrolet S-10. Officers searched the area for Michael Stonebreaker but were unable to locate him.
Police say that at approximately 2:40 p.m., police received a 911 call where the caller reported seeing a person they know as Michael Stonebreaker leaving a vacant residence in the unit block of Mavista Circle. Officers responded to Michael Stonebreaker’s residence where they located him and his blue Chevrolet S-10. Police served search warrants on Michael Stonebreaker’s residence and vehicle and obtained evidence implicating him in the burglary and trespassing, police said.
Michael Stonebreaker was arrested and charged with attempted burglary in the second degree, possession of burglar tools, misdemeanor criminal mischief and criminal trespass in the first degree. He was arraigned on the charges and committed to Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post $15,000 cash-only bail. He was issued a no contact order with the community of Rutherford.
