Homeowner Opens Fire On Masked Man

Clayton –  Delaware State Police said around 1:00 a.m., on Tuesday morning , August 23, 2016, a homeowner in the 1000 block of Clayton Delaney Road heard noises coming from his back porch. When the homeowner went to the back porch door and looked outside he observed a masked man attempting to gain entry into his home, police said.

The suspect immediately fled from the porch and ran into a cornfield located in the rear of the yard. Officials said the homeowner fired multiple rounds from his handgun at the suspect. Responding troopers, with the assistance of Delaware State Police Aviation, as well as a Smyrna Police Department K-9 unit, searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Police do not believe that the suspect was struck by the gunfire. The suspect was described as an unknown race male. He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt and had a mask covering his face.

Police do not expect an charges to be filed against the homeowner.
