Police: Wanted Man Flees Leaving Five Children In Car

The Milton Police Department said that 53 year old Andrew A. Long, turned himself in after they posted information on their social media platforms. Long was wanted in connection to an incident that occurred on Sunday, August 22, 2016 at around 6:30 p.m., police said.

According to authorities Mr. Long was observed traveling East on Route 16 when officers attempted to stop him for a motor vehicle violation. Mr. Long refused to stop for the officer who had his emergency lights and siren activated, police said.  Mr. Long was traveling the speed limit at the time of the incident and upon entering Palmer Street; he exited his vehicle and ran in the direction of Bay Avenue, leaving 5 children ranging from 2 years to 11 years old in the vehicle, officials said.

Milton Police did not chase Mr. Long on foot, instead they stayed with children.  Officers and neighbors comforted the children until their mother arrived. Back up officers did check the area but were unable to locate Mr. Long.

Police have charged Long with 5 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Felony Grade, Resisting Arrest, Failure to Signal When Turning, Disregard to a Police Officer Signal, Failure to Have Lights On When Required and Driving While Suspended/Revoked.

Mr. Long also has Pre-Existing Active Capias’s for Rape 3rd Degree from the Kent County Superior Court and Identity Theft, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest from the Lewes PD, police said.
