New Castle – New Castle County Police say they have arrested 37-year-old Tyreke Spencer in connection with a drug investigation stemming from a bicycle violation in the community of Buena Vista.
On Tuesday,September 6, at around 12:10 p.m., members of the Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) were conducting proactive patrol in the community of Buena Vista, polce said. Officials said that MET officers observed a male, later identified as Tyreke Spencer, riding a bicycle into traffic on the left side of the roadway.
Police said that upon further observation, MET officers noticed that Tyreke Spencer was smoking what appeared to be a marijuana cigar. Officers observed Tyreke Spencer meet with a vehicle and conduct, what was later determined to be, a drug deal, officers said. Officers said that when they conducted a stop they immediately detected the odor of marijuana. Upon a search, officers located one bundle, 13 bags, of heroin, according to authorities.
MET officers obtained a search warrant for Tyreke’s residence in the first block of Vista Court. Police said that when they served the search warrant, they located an additional 1,046 bags of heroin with an estimated weight of 15.69 grams, two handguns, numerous rounds of ammunition in varying calibers, prescription medication, $470 in suspected drug proceeds and paraphernalia indicative of drug sales. Police said that they also located four children in the residence.
Tyreke Spencer was charged with possession of heroin in a tier-5 quantity, possession of heroin in a tier-4 quantity with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited due to a previous felony conviction, one count of possession of a handgun while possessing heroin, six counts of possession of ammunition by a person prohibited due to a previous felony conviction, possession with intent to deliver prescription medication, delivery of heroin, possession of marijuana, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to ride a bicycle on the right of the roadway. He was arraigned and committed to Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $115,000.00 cash-only bail. He was issued a no-contact order with the children and the residence.
