Dover – The 12th annual Family Emergency Preparedness Day event will be held on Saturday, September 24th at the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM, with important information and fun activities for the entire family.
The event is co-sponsored by the Delaware Citizen Corps, Kent County Department of Public Safety, Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), Delaware Division of Public Health-Emergency Medical Services & Preparedness Section, American Red Cross, Delaware Department of Safety & Homeland Security, and the City of Dover.
Activities and demonstrations include:
• Live radio broadcasts on Eagle 97.7 and Cool 101.3
• Delaware 87ers mini-basketball hoop, and mascot Caesar
• Delaware National Guard ropes course
• Delaware State Police seatbelt “convincer” and crash test dummies
• State Police Mounted Patrol Unit
• Dover Air Force Base fire prevention trailer and display
• Kent County Mobile Command Unit
• Little Creek and Magnolia Fire Companies
• Preparedness Train children’s ride
• and much, much more.
Demonstrations of food preparation when the electricity is off – “Salad for a Tsunami” and “Parfait for a Power Outage” – will be conducted in the Preparedness Activity Tent, along with the Red Cross Disney Pillow Case Project. There will be Emergency Kit Relay Races for kids. Families can participate for prizes in the Preparedness Scavenger Hunt. To top things off, two Citizen Corps Emergency/Disaster kits will be given away each hour, exhibitors will have plenty of free giveaway items, and there will be free food for the first 1,000 visitors.
Thanks to ACE Best Family Hardware, Delmarva Power, Delaware State Police Mounted Unit, Grotto Pizza, Herr’s Potato Chips, and Tidewater Utilities, who have made donations of supplies and materials to Family Emergency Preparedness Day. Volunteers from the Delaware Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Dover Air Force Base, American Red Cross, Delaware Medical Reserve Corps, Little Creek Fire Company, Smyrna VIPS-CAP, and Middletown Jaycees are assisting with the event.
Admission is free. The Delaware Agricultural Museum is located at 866 N. Dupont Highway in Dover.
