Newark Police Department Accepting Applications for 12th Citizens Police Academy

Newark – The Newark Police Department will host the 12th Citizens Police Academy schnewark-police-patcheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 and operate through Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The program is designed to give residents, who are interested in learning about law enforcement, a unique opportunity to observe firsthand the various duties and responsibilities of a police officer.

Anyone over the age of 18 years may apply and there is no cost to attend the program. We will meet every Tuesday evening between 6 – 9:30 p.m., with a firearms day scheduled for Saturday, November 5, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. The program curriculum includes:

  •   Traffic Enforcement, RADAR & DUI
  •   Crime Scene Investigation & Processing
  •   Use of Force
  •   Firearms
  •   Police Culture
  •   Patrol Procedures
  •   Ride-Alongs

Applications will be accepted from now until Thursday, September 15, 2016. Applications can be filled out at the Newark Police Department Records Unit between 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Space is limited to 15 participants with preference given to City of Newark residents.
