Public Help Police ID Suspect

Wilmington – New Castle County Police have arrested 32-year-old Joseph W. Murphy for burglary and theft-related charges, according to Public Information Officer JP Piser.

Police released information to the media last month requesting the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect in a theft that occurred in the community of North Graylyn Crest.

Original Release

On Wednesday (August 3) New Castle County Police responded to the 1900 block of Dorset Rd in reference to a theft.  Upon contact with the victim, police learned that during the overnight hours between Tuesday and Wednesday (August 2 and 3) someone entered the victim’s vehicle and stole credit cards.

store-credit-cardPolice were able to obtain images of a person believed to be a suspect in the case from an area store’s surveillance system.

 

Piser said that after receiving numerous tips from the public in this case, police identified the suspect as Joseph W. Murphy of the 2000 block of Woodlawn Ave in Wilmington.  Officers were able to obtain an arrest warrant and took Joseph W. Murphy into custody on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, without incident.  Through the investigation, officers were able to link Joseph W. Murphy to another incident in North Graylyn Crest that occurred on the same night, Piser said.

Joseph W. Murphy, was charged with one count of third-degree burglary, four counts of attempted third-degree burglary, five counts of unlawful use of a credit card and one count of misdemeanor theft.  He was arraigned and released after posting $14,500.00 secured bond.
