Big Rig Hits New Castle Bridge

New CastleThe Delaware State Police are currently investigating a tractor trailer crash which occurred this morning.

State Police said that at approximately 7:49 a.m., Wednesday October 5, 2016 as Talib Shabazz, 67 of Pennsylvania, was operating a 2005 Volvo Tractor Trailer in the right lane northbound on DuPont Parkway. US 13, south of Basin Road (SR 141).

The tractor trailer, hauling a large freezer, approached a bridge which connects West Basin Road and East Basin Road. The freezer struck the bridge and caused the tractor trailer to come to an immediate stop in the right lane of North DuPont Highway. The front portion of the freezer which struck the bridge was torn off causing debris to scatter across all three lanes of travel.

Talib Shabazz was not injured and was cited for Inattentive Driving, according to police

The Delaware State Police continue their investigation into this incident. The two right lanes of traffic in the area of the crash were impacted for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
