Newark Cigarette Store Robbed

Newark – Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area cigarette outlet which occurred last night.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident happened at approximately 7:24 p.m. last night, Friday, October 7, 2016, as a male suspect entered the Glasgow Tobacco Outlet located at 2435 Pulaski Highway, Newark, according to police.

Police said that the suspect then approached the sales counter and confronted a female clerk. He then proceeded to spray the victim in the face with a chemical substance and demanded money from the cash register.

The victim complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes to the suspect. The suspect then exited the store and fled in an unknown direction. The female clerk was removed from the scene and transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was treated for exposure to the chemical spray.

The suspect was described as an unknown race male and was last seen wearing a mask covering his face. There is no further physical or clothing description available for the suspect.
