Wilmington – Delaware State Police arrested a Wilmington teenager today after he was found in possession of a loaded handgun while attending the John Dickinson High School in the Red Clay Consolidated School District according to State Police Spokesmand Richard Bratz.
Bratz said the preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at approximately 9:25 a.m. today, October 28, 2016 as school officials were informed that a student was in possession of a handgun, according to authorities. School officials and the trooper, assigned to the school as the School Resource Officer (SRO), quickly responded to the gymnasium and located the student.
During the investigation a loaded handgun was allegely found to be in the student’s book bag, said Bratz. Police said the student was immediately taken into custody without incident and the weapon was safely secured and seized as evidence.
The 16 old student, from Wilmington, was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with Possession of a Firearm by Prohibited Juvenile, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone. He was arraigned with a parent before the New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in default of $18,000.00 cash bond
