Woman Killed In Auto Accident

New Castle The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash which claimed the life of a New Castle woman this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Jeffrey R. Hale.

Hale said the initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred this morning, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at approximately 1:15 a.m. as Elisabeth Balance, 31, of New Castle, was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro and was traveling on the ramp from northbound I-95 to Old Airport Road and DE Rt. 141, New Castle.

For an unknown reason, Balance failed to remain in her lane and traveled into a grass area that divides the roadways. The Camaro then struck a cement drainage culvert and a wooden utility pole before coming to rest in the grassy area.

Elisabeth Balance was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if she was properly restrained at the time of the crash. It is also unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The ramp from I-95 northbound to Old Airport Road and DE Rt. 141 was closed for approximately 2 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
