Christina Announces Three Finalists for Superintendent Position

Wilmington – The Christina Board of Education has announced three finalists for the position of Superintendent of the Christina School District. The finalists will visit the District between January 6-12 to tour schools, make public presentations, and participate in interviews with the Board.

Samuel L. Golder is currently Director of Secondary School Operations in the Red Clay Consolidated School District, a position he has held since 2009. He holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in education administration and supervision from Loyola College in Baltimore. He has served as principal of Alexis I DuPont High School in Wilmington, assistant principal of Annapolis High School in Annapolis, Maryland, and has taught English at Arundel High School in Gambrills, Maryland. In his current role as Director of Secondary School Operations in the Red Clay School District he has overseen budgets, school evaluation procedures, school success plans, security, and district-authorized charter schools and magnet programs.

Richard L. Gregg currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for the Penn-Delco School District in Aston, Pennsylvania, a position he has held since 2015. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Delaware, and a master’s degree in school leadership and instruction from Wilmington University. His experience also includes serving as principal of Penncrest High School in Media, Pennsylvania, and from 2000-2003 as Director of Instruction for New Castle County Vocational Technical School District in Delaware. He has also served as principal of Brandywine High School, principal and assistant principal of Concord High School in the Brandywine School District, assistant principal at Christiana High School in the Christina School District. His teaching experience includes a total of nine years’ experience as a high school social studies teacher. In his current role as Assistant Superintendent for Penn-Delco School District he is responsible for curriculum and instruction, pupil services, technology, district budgets, school improvement plans, and federal programs.

Gerald “Jerry” B. Wilson, Ph.D., most recently served as Superintendent of Worcester County Public Schools in Newark, Maryland, a position he held from 2012-2016. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and English from the University of Maryland, a master’s degree in curriculum and supervision from Idaho State University, and a doctorate degree in education from the University of Wyoming. He has served as superintendent of Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado, superintendent of Hermiston School District in Hermiston, Oregon, and superintendent of Sublette County School District 1 in Pinedale, Wyoming. He has also been a principal and curriculum director, and has a total of 13 years of teaching experience in English and language arts. In his current role as Superintendent, he is responsible for curriculum and instruction, school improvement planning, evaluation procedures, strategic planning, budget planning, and safety and security.

The Christina Board of Education has developed a schedule of school tours, public presentations, and interviews for three Superintendent finalists. The candidates will tour Kirk Middle School and Bancroft Elementary School on January 6 and January 9, and will make presentations at public forums scheduled on the evening of January 11. The Christina Board will conduct interviews with each of the three finalists during the day on January 12.

The public forums on January 11 will be held at Gauger-Cobbs Middle School, 50 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713. Each candidate will make his presentation at the times listed below. Topics for the presentations will be provided to the candidates. A brief question and answer period will follow each of the presentations. All members of the community are welcome to attend.

Richard L. Gregg – 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Samuel L. Golder – 7:15 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Gerald (Jerry) B. Wilson – 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
