Newark – Delaware State Police are currently investigating the attempted armed robbery of a 33 year old man as he attempted to sell IPhones in a shopping center parking lot yesterday evening, according to Delaware State Police Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Jeffrey R. Hale.

Hale said that on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at approximately 8:56 p.m., as a 33 year old male victim met with a man, who had agreed to purchase two IPhones from him, in the parking lot of the People’s Plaza Shopping Center, located at 400 People’s Drive, Newark.

After the victim made contact with the male suspect outside of the Rugged Wearhouse store, the suspect produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim, said Hale. The suspect then demanded the phones from the victim, however, the victim refused and proceeded to wrestle the suspect to the ground.

During the struggle, the victim was able to gain possession of the suspect’s gun. The suspect then fled the area on foot without obtaining any property from the victim. There were no injuries.

The suspect was described as a black male. He was 5’06”-5’08” tall and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black hat. There is no further physical or clothing description of the suspect available.
